The Gutenberg Operating System Kernel

چکیده
The Gutenberg system is a port-based, object-oriented operating system kernel designed to facilitate the design and structuring of distributed systems. This is achieved by providing primitives for controlling process interconnections and thereby controlling access to shared resources. Only shared resources are viewed as protected objects. Processes communicate with each other and access protected objects through the use of ports. Each port is associated with an abstract data type operation and can be created by a process only if the process possesses the privilege to execute that operation. Capabilities to create ports for requesting operations are contained in the capability directory which is a kernel object. At any time, each process is associated with a single subdirectory of the capability directory designated as its

On Kernel Support for Real-Time Multimedia Applications
Real-time operating system services are required to support multimedia systems that rely heavily of the workstation processor for control of the audio and video processors and movement of audio and video data. Such services are typically not available in existing workstation operating systems. This note comments on the requirements for such services and briefly describes the YARTOS kernel; an o...
متن کاملOs Verification- a Survey as a Source of Future Challenges
Formal verification of an operating system kernel manifests absence of errors in the kernel and establishes trust in it. This paper evaluates various projects on operating system kernel verification and presents indepth survey of them. The methodologies and contributions of operating system verification projects have been discussed in the present work. At the end, few unattended and interesting...
متن کاملEnhancing Transportation System Networks Reliability by Securer Operating System
More than a few failures of Transportation System Networks are caused by kernel stack overflow. Transportation System Networks use operating systems like Android that employs the Linux kernel which has a fixed size kernel stack. Unfortunately, nowadays there is no mechanism to avert the kernel from overflowing the stack. With the purpose of putting a stop to this fault, we present a dynamically...
متن کاملThe COSY–Kernel as an Example for Efficient Kernel Call Mechanisms on Transputers
In this article, design issues for scalable operating systems suited to support efficient multiprogramming in large Transputer clusters are considered. Shortcomings of some current operating system approaches for Transputer based systems concerning efficiency, scalability, and multiprogramming support are discussed. After a brief overview of the new operating system COSY, the emphasis is laid o...
متن کاملSafer Operating System for Vehicle Telematics
Numerous failures of telematics system are caused by kernel stack overflow. Telematics systems use operating systems like Android that employs the Linux kernel which has a fixed size kernel stack. Unfortunately, nowadays there is no mechanism to avert the kernel from overflowing the stack. With the purpose of putting a stop to this fault, we present a dynamically sized kernel stack that knows h...
